Amazing Tips for Trophy Hunts Preparation Whether you are new in hunting or have vast experience in trophy hunting, field preparation matters a lot. Any wrong move will ruin your chances of having excellent taxidermy mount for your home or office. To help you out, here are some amazing field preparation tips for your trophy hunt: Be Careful With the Carcass When handling the carcass, avoid tampering with it as much as possible. You’d not want to tear or stain your trophy as this means less usable materials for the taxidermist to use. Even worse, the outcome may not be as good or the damage may make it impossible to salvage anything. Stay Safe The excitement of hunting and field prepping your trophy can easily overtake logical thinking. But this should not be the case. Always ensure that you wear protective gloves so you don’t contract any infectious diseases from the game. And after handling the game, wash and disinfect your hands. Don’t forget to handle your trophy with care so you don’t end up ruining all your efforts. Know When to Gut and Cape Before sending your trophy hunt to the taxidermist, you need to complete specific field preparation work. For instance, you should gut and/ or cape larger animals like the deer in the fields. For small mammals, fish, or birds, you should not gut or cape them after hunting. Ship Your Trophy As Soon As Possible After killing your animal, send it to our taxidermist as fast as possible. This will prevent the buildup of bacteria that could damage the hide and other usable material.
If possible, prepare your shipping tags before your hunting spree so you can send the carcass over as soon as you complete the field prep. And if you can’t send your hide to the taxidermist immediately, follow the taxidermist’s instructions to freeze it. As taxidermy experts, we want to make your trophy hunt and field preparation a success. This way, we can create, a beautiful, timeless taxidermy mount you can proudly display.
